Hi, everybody. I am fortunate enough to have been promised a new computer for encoding purposes. I was asked to provide some specs on what would be best. Of course I would say get the fastest processor, lots of RAM, and a huge hard drive, but on specifics I ama bit fuzzy. What would make for a total kick ass encoding machine? Intel only? Would the FSB make a difference? Any clues you could me would be greatly appreciated. I have a Blackmagic decklink card to capture with and I would use Sorenson Squeeze for encoding. Thank you.

You’ll want a super fast storage system (RAID), at least 4GB of RAM, a good GPU (the nVidia 8800 GT is a good start) and multiple, multi-core processors with a reliable, stable and up-to-date operating system.

As such I could only recommend the latest 8-core Apple Mac Pro, which you could obviously dual-boot with Windows, if needed.
