January 31, 2014 at 1:55 pmStart out by getting the fastest Intel i7 Ivy Bridge CPU and work down from there. For motherboards, look for one that has 4, at a minimum, SATAIII ports (6 gb/s), and 8gb RAM. There are quite a few good SSD drives, and you can’t go wrong with the Samsung 840 Pro (500gb minimum). Video card is your choice, but you should be able to get an upper-end nVidia or ATI Radeon card within your stated budget.
Most importantly, DO NOT SKIMP on the power supply! Get a BRAND NAME unit, 800 watts MINIMUM. If you get a cheap, no-name power supply, you’ll run into issues down the road with system stability and pull your hair out troubleshooting.
Personally, I order all my stuff from NewEgg. Prices are good and no hassle returns.

February 1, 2014 at 3:23 amBefore you buy the Samsung 840, read this torture-test report.
I was about to buy the Samsung until I read it. The Samsung, although probably useable, did not fare will in the group. After reading it I got a Corsair Neutron 480 GTX.

The Neutron seemed to have a good, steady performance. The Samsung read-times graph was all over the place.
