My PC is not recognizing my Sharp VL-NZ100 video camera. I have a firewire and am using a dv connection. I have tried turning the camera on and restarting the computer but it still does not recognize that anything is plugged in to my computer. I tried finding a driver for the camera with no success. I don’t know if I need one though because the computer should recognize that something is plugged in anyway. Can anyone help me??

What version and flavor Avid software are you using? What computer hardware? Does your hardware meet Avid specifications? Does the firewire card? Have you tried choosing “generic DV device” in the deck setup menu?

Oh Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! Also, thank you for being so nice because I have read a lot of posts where experts are rude to newbies. I ended up using a different video camera and everything worked. I am guessing that my old video camera is probably broken. Is it better to buy a deck or to just use the video camera you shot the stuff with to digitize.

Shuttling a lot of tape increases the wear on your camera’s heads and transport mechanism. However, with miniDV cameras so cheap, it’s actually feasible to pick up a dirt cheap camera to use in the edit room. With the move to data-based (rather than tape) workflows, you really need to justify dropping 4 digits on a DV deck.

Hi I’m using a PC and a Panasonic AG-HVX200P – I’ve been trying to capture from my camera on Avid and avid does not recognize it.

If anyone can tell me what I’m doing wrong that would be great.

I’m using firewire and have adjusted the deck settings several times – to Avid – Firewire – Generic – nothing seems to be working.

Look forward to hearing from you. Oluwaba
