I’m running Pro 9 on an XP, 32 bit system. Will be replacing compputer with a new one running Windows 7, 64 bit. What’s the best way to install/re-install? I’ll be changing from 9.C to 9.E at the same time, thanx, Pete.

There is no upgrade path from XP to Windows 7 so you will have to re-install everything again.

What I did was partition my hard drive and leave XP on it and also install Windows 7. then I could take my time installing applications over several days and could always boot back to XP for the apps I hadn’t installed yet. Then where you’re all done, delete the XP partition and expand the Windows 7 partition.

Thanx for replying John. The new computer will have Windows 7 on it and I backed up as much as I could from my existing C drive, copying it to my ext HD, which also houses all my .veg files. As far as I know I’ll still have to re-install all my software programs, either redownloaded or off the install CD’s, at which time I’ll update to 9.0e 64 bit.
I’ve only changed computers once before when I had just a few programs to replace. This time will be a lot more daunting as I’ve got about 25-30 to re-install.
You mentioned leaving XP on a partition. Since I won’t have XP on the new CPU are you saying that there’s a way to save the whole operating system (XP) and install on the new computer???
Also, last question, since all my Pro 9.0c captures, saves, info and .veg files will still be accessible from my ext. HD can I bring them into the 9.0e 64 bit version?…thanks again, Pete.

I bought a CD case and all of the CD’s needed to rebuild my computer are in it. As I buy major new software, the CD goes in the case. then when I rebuild the system, I open the CD case and just start installing one after the other so I never have to look for a software CD or wonder what needs to be installed.

I use Acronis TrueImage. I would backup the XP disc and restore it to the new partition. Then I boot with the XP CD and do a “repair” install which reloads all of the drivers needed for the new motherboard. Finally, boot XP and install the motherboard chipset drivers onto XP and you should have a working OS.
