Compressor/Qmaster Memory Issue
I don’t know what I did but I’m praying someone can help me. First off I’m on a Mac Mini 1.66 Core Duo with 2GB of RAM and Running FCS2 and OSX 10.5.5
I am on the tail end of rendering some video with Compressor 3 encoding it to H.264. I wasn’t having any issues until a few weeks ago when (in an effort to speed up the process a little) I went into Qmaster and tried to set up a virtual cluster. Since then every time I try to encode video through Compressor (whether through direct export from FCP or from a self-contained movie) I can literally watch the free space on my hard drive click disapper.
I’m rendering the files to a 1TB external hard drive and I choose “never copy source to cluster” before I submit. I cannot figure out what’s happening and I can not seem to fix it. I have almost 5GB of free space on my hard drive and when I submit a job I open a Finder window just to monitor the memory use and I’m losing approx. .01 GB PER MINUTE while compressor is running.
I’m pretty sure it’s a virtual memory allocation of some sort because when I cancel the job the free space on my hard drive opens back up but I can’t imagine why Compressor would take all of my 5GB. I’ve let it run overnight to see what would happen and Compressor used all of my available memory…I woke up to find the export stopped because the start up drive had no free space at all.
What makes it stranger to me is that I’ve exported a few projects straight to a plain Quicktime format through Compressor and they work fine. I can’t use them because they’re too large to fit on a DVD but they don’t feast on my hard drive and they complete no matter how big they end up being. Any ideas? Any one? I’ll try anything.
