  • Compressor won’t launch

Compressor 2.3 will not launch from within FCP. Under the export choices, compressor is grayed out and not an option. Compressor will not launch from the applications menu either. Compressor 2.3 shows as 83.7mb size app with no obvious wierdness. I am not sure how to uninstall and reinstall. I am using FCP 5.1.4, tiger, G5 8 gigs of ram, Decklink HD pro Dual card.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Robert,

Compressor has prefs just like FCP and all the other apps. They are most likely corrupt and in need of trashing. You can find them in the library… That’s what I’d be looking at first before a new install.

    Hi David,

If I go to user/home/library/application support/compressor, there is a lot of stuff in there. What am I looking for to trash? And what do I not want to mess with.

Can’t help ya there… I’d copy them all to another place for safe keeping and then start trying to find the right one by trial and elimination.

    NO!

DOn’t touch anything in that folder.

TO trash Compressor preferences, you want User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist

    Hi Jeremy,

I still have all of the compressor application support files intact. I moved the compressor preferences to the trash to take it offline yet compressor still will not launch. I am considering uninstalling, but I am not sure what Final Cut Studio disk has compressor on it. I did the upgrade from FCP 5 to FCP 5.1.4. Still messing with it, any ideas would be great.
    Thanks,
    Robert

Use the FCP install disk, do a custom install and choose only compressor.
