  • Compressor vs. Quicktime Conversion for export, same codec, different results.

I’ve been using the “Quicktime Conversion” menu to export sequences to MPEG4 H.264 for my clients. For those of you who haven’t tried this codec, the image/sound quality is fantastic with very small file sizes for fullscreen movies (30MB for a nine minute sequence).

    Anyway, here’s my problem:

When I export using “Quicktime Conversion”, everything is peachy, but when I use Compressor to do the exact same H.264 export, the results are different (not as good quality, and the aspect ratio is being changed slightly despite using identical settings).

Does anyone know if both of these export paths use the same Quicktime engine? In other words, when I download the latest verion of QT with the latest codecs, does that update BOTH “Compressor” AND “Quicktime Conversion”?

Curious minds want to know . .

    Many thanks.

    All the best,
