  • Compressor takes way too long with DV clips

Posted by Chris Borjis on May 6, 2008 at 8:37 pm

weird issue I just had here converting a DV file for DVD.

If I take a 24 minute long DV .mov file and run it through compressor it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes to encode it, which is about 1 hour and 20 minutes too long (on a quad G5)

If I take that DV .mov, export it as a 720×486 uncompressed or prores hq file (from quicktime pro) and run it through compressor it takes 20 minutes.

Why the heck would it do that?

    Hi Chris,
    Too slowwwwww.
Haven’t you stopped any export from Compressor?
My Compressor is behaving very strange.
If I stop an exporting, Compressor keeps working in the background. No way to stop it.
If I send the same job again, first will finish the first task, then will start the second, OVERWRITING the first file.

..and always a big mess on top of the table.

[Rafael Amador] “Haven’t you stopped any export from Compressor?”

    sure, I’ve stopped it.

It might take a minute or so before it quits though.

I’m running G5 Quad. Are you on Intel mac?
They both have their own odd behaviours it seems.

I wonder why nobody else is responding to this issue.
I don’t do a whole lot of DV, but there is clearly
something very wrong for it to take so much longer.

    Hi Chris,
It happens in my MBP. What ever task I stop Compressor try to finish it afterward.
Now I make sure to clean the window “History”.
