  • Compressor Stereo Fold down from 5.1?

Posted by Jack Nastowski on May 7, 2009 at 5:25 pm

    Hello,

I have 6-track audio files (5.1 surround) that I would like to fold down to 2-track stereo through a compressor preset.

Does anyone know how to do this correctly?

Currently, I have to re-export the movie from a stereo final cut sequence. I mute the LFE track and take down the rear channel L&R by 3 decibels. Is there a way to program compressor to recognize these tracks and adjust them appropriately?

A better result will come from doing the fold down manually in FCP or some other audio tool that lets you automate levels and also provides dynamics control if the stereo fold is to comply with broadcast level specs. That way you can get the right balance of elements and final stereo level.

Thank you for your response. Can you recommend any programs that automate audio levels and pans?
