compressor settings for decent quality at tiny data rate?
I need to upload very long movie files (generally 1 hour, sometimes more) for download. I’ve played with frame rate, frame size, audio encoding and data rate settings within compressor. Thus far, data rate seems to have, by far, the biggest impact.
Encoding one hour of DV at 150 kb/sec, 320×240, 15 fps, gave me a file size around 78MB; too big for my purposes. Smaller frame size is unwatchable for an hour. Lower fps gave me no change in file size. Lower data rate produced video that looked like it was filmed underwater. I’ve seen other samples on the web as low as 21kb/sec that looked watchable.
Are they using something other than compressor? Any ideas for different settings or a different program that I should be using?
