Forgive the use of this forum if it’s in the wrong spot.

I’m new to compressing and am not sure if something is wrong.

I’m running a macbook pro with 2.16ghz internal core duo
    2 gb 667 mhz ddr2 sdram

I’ve set my quicktime file to encode at mpeg2 average bitrage 4.6 max 6.0, 2 pass vbr best. the quicktime file is 3hr 29min with an estimated size of 7.5 gig’s after compression.

It’s telling me 15hrs to compress this file.
does that sound right to anyone? or has something potentially frozen or gotten stuck?

    Thanks,
    Mike

It’s possible, especially if your source is HD. Did you turn on any frame controls?

I honestly don’t know. I’ve never used compressor before. I’m doing a friend a favor because his system crashed.

I’m using all of the default options for compressor 2 with mpeg2 conversion from the ‘new default’ pulldown menu.

I’ve just trashed that batch and restarted. it’s now telling me 41minutes to encode.

    it’s set to:

    average framerate 4.6
    max framerate 6.0
    gop 15
    twopass vbr best
    motoion estimation best
