so up till now I’ve been using compressor to make mpeg2 files for dvds. It works decently well. The biggest problem is the 2 pass encoding takes a ridiculous amount of time with little gain in quality. I just got sorenson 4.5 primarly for QT encoding and was debating using it for mepgs as well. I did some tests with default settings and found the video quality itself to be virtually identical. The workflow is slightly different for Sorenson but really no more complicated(just outputted as a final cut QT file and dragged it into squeeze).

I was wondering if anyone has any good comparisions or experiences that would help me decide which of these programs would suit mpeg2 encoding for dvd authoring better. If it makes a difference I author everything in DVDsp
