  • Compressor not playing well with avid DNxHD quicktime ref movies?

We need to get a ProResHD multi-track audio quicktime out of avid. To do that we are exporting a quicktime reference file with audio not mixed down, and then taking that file into compressor and exporting it out pro res HD with audio pass thru. The (DnxHD)reference file looks and sounds great out of avid on quicktime and even plays correctly in compressor. The file has about 10 seconds of slate and black and then the spot. When we save it out of compressor, for some reason the audio starts playing at the start instead of where the spots starts 10 seconds in.

This only happens with sequences out of avid.

Why is it doing this? Why is it so hard to get a self-contained multi-track audio quicktime out of avid? Thanks!

    I’m on a mac pro 2.93 (6core) with 32gb ram on 10.6.6 running MC 5.5.1 and compressor 3.5.3, quicktime pro 7.6.6

I dont think you can just have blank space (filler) under the slate with a reference movie..an Avid quirk.

Try putting a clip of silence (just put a real audio clip there with the level set all the way down).

    Then try the export again.

I think i figured it out. The sequence had a mix of 16bit and 24bit audio. I transcoded the 16bit audio to 24bit and it works now.

    1-Avid exports quicktime reference movie
2-Compressor exports the ref movie into a self contained movie
