    I have some clips:
    qt, mp4, 620×480, 24 fps.

I need to use them in a
    sequence in FCP:

dvcprohd 720p24 or perhaps 1080i60. Not sure yet.

In any case, since FCP won’t take mp4 and for other reasons, I
thought it best to convert them in compressor to dvcprohd. Now how do
I set this up to get the right frame size? I want them to appear pillar boxed
in the canvas window–that is, to maintain their original 1:1.33 aspect ratio.
(I don’t know why, but for some reason aspect ratio and pixel aspect ratio
math make my head swim I got an A+ in calculus in college, too.)

If I make them with square pixels at 150 percent size, I get a
horizontally squished image and have to use “distort” in the motion
    tab.

If I make them with dvcprohd aspect ratio pixels, i get a vertically
squashed image andhave to use “distort” in the motion tab.

PLUS: half the time compressor seems to change the settings on me:
now it makes it with square pixels when i tell it to, now it won’t.
