Compressor, FCPX, and EVA1 footage
It appears that Panasonic EVA1 footage is not compatible with Compressor, even though I can open and use these files in FCPX (also Premiere, Media Composer, and Resolve). In Compressor the screen is just green or black. I would imagine there’s no fix for this, but if so, let me know. It’s odd that the two apps – supposedly using the same media framework – don’t support the same codecs.

Did you update firmware on the EVA lately?
My day job has two EVA1s I will check tomorrow.
I believe they were updated a few months ago. -
What version Compressor?
I know the footage works fine in FCPX 10.4.3. -
Don’t know on the updates for the camera. That’s the Dir/DP’s territory. He’s an outside client. I do have access to some other EVA1 footage from a different source and can double-check that tomorrow.
Compressor is the most current version, whatever that number is.
But, as I say, it’s fine with FCPX. FWIW – ProRes RAW is also treated differently in the two different apps.

So this does appear to be a firmware issue with the camera. I tested some other EVA1 files from a different camera and Compressor is OK with those. One other difference is that the files in question are 4096 wide, while the “good” files are 3840. Not sure if that’s a factor or not.

Actually it may not be a firmware issue, but rather choice of codecs. The 3.0 firmware update enables a 10-bit 4:2:2 All-I AVC VBR recording at up to 400 Mbps. QuickTime X player won’t open these files either. The DP tells me he can’t open these in the free version of Resolve, only VLC. So it’s probably the 10-bit issue. The “good” EVA1 files I tested were 8-bit using one of the other codec options. So it’s still a curiosity that Compressor can’t open all of the same pro codecs that FCPX can open.
