We are seeing a problem with files made by Compressor 3.5.1.

    Mac OSX 10.6.2
    Compressor 3.5.1
Source files are DVCProHD 720p 24fps
Destination files are Apple ProRes 422 HS 720X486 SD 30fps Letter Boxed

The video settings are enabled and Interlaced LowerFieldFirst is selected.

We cannot determine if the file is Lower or Upper field dominate but the video appears to be interlaces, However Final Cut Pro reports that the file is Interlaced = None. Why?

If we change the output file to a DVCPro50 it works properly and Final Cut Pro reports that the file is Interlaced Lower.

So for now we must do a two step process:
Down Res to DVCPro50 SD interlaced and then reprocess into the Apple ProRes.

    Any suggestions?

WHY oh why are you trying to interlace it!?

[Fred Connors Jr.] “We cannot determine if the file is Lower or Upper field dominate but the video appears to be interlaces, “

How does the video appear to be interlaced?

    Daniel

The File ProRes file must be Standard Def Interlaced LowerField for distribution.

It appears, visually, to be interlaced because every other line of active video is offset form the previous line, the very definition of interlaced.

Can we focus on the issue at hand? Compressor does not set the Field Dominance value in the meta data for the file when the source file is DVCPro HD and the Destination file in ProRes.

    Ok,

I’d suggest contacting Apple for support.

Can you post a screen shot?

    I stand corrected.

The AppleProRes file does not appear to be interlaced.

The DVCPro50 File does appear to be interlaced.

I will report this to Apple.

    Thanks
