  • Compressor doesn’t work since Leopard update

    Hi Everyone!

Sorry if this is a repeat of another post. I saw a similar topic from a few days ago, but the reply didn’t solve my problem, so I made my own thread. Anyways…

Since upgrading to Leopard, I can no longer use Compressor to export anything from FCP. I was getting the error “Unable to connect to background process”. I guess this is a problem with Qmaster not running in the background properly?? Apple’s solution is to delete then reinstall Compressor and Qmaster. I recently reinstalled the entire FCP suite (for other reasons) and now Compressor will not even stay open. It opens, spins the Pinwheel-of-Death, and then shuts down. It also locks up FCP. I have repaired my permissions; that did not solve the problem. Any ideas??

I have FCP Studio HD: FCP 5.0.4, Compressor 2.0, Qmaster 2.0. I have downloaded the 2.0.1 update for Compressor and Qmaster (three times now), but the update won’t install. I’m running a Duel 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB RAM, OS X 10.5.2

    Thanks!

You probably should not be running FCP 5.0.4 on Leopard. In fact you should not be running FCP 5.0.4 on OS X. FCP 5.1 was the first Universal version for OS X.

I’ve been using it for a long time now with no problems, though. They only started when I upgraded to Leopard. So are my only solutions to either upgrade to FCP Suite 2, or downgrade to the previous operating system?

It’s been I believe almost 2 years since I used FCP 5.0. Honestly don’t know what to suggest. But if it were me I definitely would never have upgraded to Leopard or even Tiger with that system.

Well, you’ve been lucky so far.

How about upgrading to FCP 5.1?

Make sure you remove all old versions of Apple QMaster before you resintall. Update quicktime as well and make sure you have the latest version. This worked for me before, hopefully it does for you too! Good Luck!

    Serenity now…

That upgrade is no longer available. The only options Julie has are to upgrade to FCS2 or back up to Tiger.

Thanks guys! I guess I just didn’t do my homework on compatibility as well as I thought I did. I had talked to a colleague about it and we thought we were running the setup so I thought I’d be ok. But I guess that while we’re both using FCP 5, he’s using 5.1.

Well, maybe this will help my “we should upgrade” case with my boss 😉

Yes, FCS 1 is compatible to Leopard, including Compressor!

Found the solution to your problem without going FCS 2: upgrade Qmaster 2 to 2.3 then upgrade Compressor 2.0/2.1 to 2.3, then 2.3.1.

I have FCP 5.1.4 on my Powerbook G4 15″ 1.5ghz, Mac OS 10.4.10 and finally got the newer Macbook Pro 2.6ghz (well, kinda new… its the last model before the awful unibodies). Was able to transfer everything over to the MBP, until I had the Compressor problem and the Motion problem (I found the solution to that too). Not gonna take credit, as I researched this the last 3 days online, from the Apple forums to people’s blogs to even Creative Cow. (Yes, I didn’t want to upgrade to FCS 2 either – hey, if its not broken, why fix it?)

    Hope this helps.
