Compressor Crashes on startup
Posted by Ben The camera guy on July 26, 2007 at 11:17 pmHey Everyone,
2 Days ago compressor worked real nicely. Now, however, I can’t even get it to open. Get a crash error after it launches, tried everything short of reformatting and reinstalling OSX (which I really don’t wanna do)…any ideas? Thanks!Richard Coyne replied 15 years, 8 months ago 5 Members · 4 Replies -

August 22, 2007 at 1:12 amI had the same problem today, with deadlines a-go-go.
I called Apple and they told me that this is a “known problem” and that currently the only fix is to wipe the hard drive and re-install the operating system.
I told him that that was totally unacceptable, and asked him to step me through some alternative procedures (like reinstalling after deleting some Library files).
Nothing worked. I had to use an older machine with FCP 5.1 installed to do all my exports. I’m quite tempted to return Final Cut Studio 2, but they won’t let me because it’s software.
A letter to fake Steve Jobs is next.
Good luck, friend. We both need it.

August 23, 2007 at 12:34 pmI’ve experienced the same issue since upgrading to FCS2. Apple TS acknowledged the problem and gave me the same solution – total reinstall of OS and applications or wait for a fix. This is totally unacceptable! My business cannot afford the time or money needed to correct these types of issues! If Apple doesn’t fix it soon, then I will abandon FCS2 and never look back. It is cheaper for me to purchase a solution that Works that to screw around with one that should but doesn’t.
When I mentioned that I had recently installed Adobe CS3, I heard some bunk about how another ‘software solution’ was adversely affecting the OS and causing these type of issues. I told him that I was under the impression that Apple ran a tighter ship regarding application standards and that this was a primary reason for purchasing Apple based solutions.
I appreciated the candid open discussion, but the lack of a solution short of kicking me in the groin (reinstall) is unacceptable. Perhaps Apple is too busy with iPhones to give a damn about us?

February 4, 2008 at 11:57 pmWowsers!
I’m a bit relieved that i’m not the only one experiencing this. It’s just so strange that the program is working completely fine for 6 months and then overnight stops working. I wonder if it’s an OS problem or the compressor software… probably a bit of both.

August 17, 2010 at 9:44 amHi All. Im new to this site so apologies if I’m asking previous questions. Im running FCP 5.1.4 studio and compressor has always worked well until about a month ago. Now it crashes the whole machine when I open it to export from FCP on my Mac Pro(10.4.11).
I’ve seen the entries that suggest reinstalling the OS but they are talking about later versions of compressor or FCP. Is this the only solution to my old machines conflict? Is this a Quadmaster problem?
Any comments welcomed. Richie
