i am editing an animated series at the moment. All our animated scenes arrive on Hard Drive as either QT animation files or QT files with ‘none’ codec. (1024 x 576)

i am using Compressor 1.2.1. for transcoding these files into BlackMagic 2Vuy 8 bit. (720 x 576 anamorphic)

i have been converting animation movie files for 6 months on the same machine and hvae only jsut recently started having an inconsistant problem.

my batches are failing with this warning ‘codec not installed’.

at first i only got this warning with the ‘none’ codec Quicktime files, but now i am also getting it with the animation files.

the weirdest thing is, that at the moment i have 2 episodes i am trying to transcode into the BM 2Vuy 8 bit. the original files from both Eps are all animation files, all from the same company, all exactly the same. Compressor has no issue transcoding 1 of the Eps, but with the other, i keep getting the ‘codec not installed warning’.

i have tried reinstalling the compressor software, copied preferences from another editor (who is not having this issue), reinstalled Blackmagic, and rebooted after each effort…. still getting warning. the inconsistancy with which Compressor is treating these identical files has me baffled.

    any ideas?

I don’t know anything about the Black Magic products so I can’t help you there, sorry. But I know that Compressor throws up several lame error messages that are completely meaningless. The one you’re getting may not have anything to do with missing codecs.

However, since one of the files will come into Compressor, it stands to reason (from where I’m sitting, which is of little help), the other file is apparently flawed. will it open into any other applications? What happens if you bring it into FCP or QT Player or After Effects?

    Wish I could help.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
