  • Compressor bug when encoding 5.1 surround to ac3???

I’m using all the latest universal updates on a G5 and I believe I have discovered a bug in Compressor when encoding ac3 files from Dolby 5.1 trks. Has anyone else encountered this issue???

Using professionally mixed trks output for 5.1, which have been checked and rechecked for proper levels, Compressor creates an ac3 file that is not properly left/right balanced, at least not when playing back in stereo on any system or TV. The ac3 file plays back with the right channel (music and effects) several db (3db – 6db) hotter than the left.

I’d like to verify my findings somewhat scientifically by encoding bars and tone and checking precise levels, but I’m not yet entirely certain how to setup the test properly to identify if left is too low or if right is too hot. Does anyone with a thorough knowledge of 5.1 have idea for a proper test?

Where did you get the 5.1 surround file from? what format is it? Have you tried other surround files in compressor?

    thx
