  • Compressor 4.3.1 — 5.1 mix fold down are low

I’m not sure where to post this questions so I thought I’d try here. I have a professionally mixed 5.1 feature film. It sounds great. It was mixed in a post facility in a 5.1 mixing room so the mix is not the problem.

When I make a Blu-Ray I encoded the 6 stems of the 5.1 mix in Compressor. This also does an LTRT fold down. The problem I am running into is the client plays the disc on a system with a receiver to decode the 5.1 and it sounds great. He takes it home to his house and his Blu-ray plugs directly into his TV with an HDMI cable, no 5.1 decoding. He tells me the stereo (really LTRT) mix is very low and he has to crank up his TV to hear it. He says he doesn’t have this problem with store bought Blu-Rays.

Has anyone run into this? I’ve been authoring Blu-Rays this way with Compressor for audio and Encore to make the discs for years and never heard of a problem.

Does anyone know if there are some settings in compressor that have to be changed? In the Compressor that came with FCP7 it was different. Version 4.3.1 has more options.

I’d appreciate any advice from someone that actually uses compressor and make 5.1 fold downs.

    TIA.
