I have hundreds of GoPro clips I need to batch export with in/out points and using Compressor 3 to convert to ProRes, of course Compressor 3 is clunky and slow. I don’t necessarily mind the processing time but the interface reacting very slow to keyboard commands or when dropping on settings.

I’m considering purchasing FCPX and/or Compressor just to handle converting hundreds of GoPro clips so I can batch with in/out points. Then plan to give them a go once I complete this huge project.

Can anyone tell me if indeed Compressor 4 is faster, more responsive and does the interface work much the same as 3? Do to looming deadlines I don/t have much time to learn new software.

    Michael,
I use Compressor 4 and my GoPro and have found that Compressor 4 is more efficient in the set up and use of multiple cores/ clusters etc.

The UI is much the same as Compressor 3 – which could be a good point or not, depending on how you are sitting on your chair.

The integration between FCP X and Compressor 4 is better – though that is a personal comment.

Ingestion of GoPro mp4 into FCP X goes smoothly and without a hiccup, in my experience.

That’s all I can say as I’ve never had to think about it, personally.

    Regards,

    Lawrence

I found no real speed difference in my tests. In fact, Compressor 4 seemed buggier to me.

If you have access to it, Adobe Media Encoder flies through that stuff rather quickly, being 64-bit. Otherwise, you can set up a quick cluster in Compressor 3 and probably get the same performance.
