    I just installed Final Cut Studio 2 yesterday. I have a 4 x 2.5ghz mac with 4.5gb of ram.

Until yesterday I have used Compressor 2.x to batch compress several .AVI files into DV-NTSC files so I can use them in FCP without rendering. After the big update, I can only drag (1) .AVI file into compressor. If I select more than (1) file, Compressor will then freeze and I have to do a Force-Quit.
I did notice that I can manually add each file through compressor using the “Add File” button in the upper left corner. Even then, it will intermittently crash. I tried reinstalling FCP Studio 2 again yesterday but it is doing the same thing. It works just fine with .MOV files.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Roger

Maybe preference files? Can you replicate the same thing with a different user? Compressor has prefs just like FCP, if this doesn’t happen for another user on the same machine, then you can just trash them.

Or skip the testing step and trash away… Users > [yourusername] > Library > Preferences > com.apple.compressor.Compressor.plist and com.apple.Compressor.CompressorSharedService.plist. might be a place to start. And repair your permissions on the boot volume using Disk Utility. (also noted in the below KB Article)

    A true Compressor reinstall is a pain…https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888

    Remove and reinstall Compressor
To reinstall Compressor effectively, you need to remove the application, its receipts and associated files, then install Compressor and use Software Update to install additional updates. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Compressor. Note: Make sure that you have the installation discs for the application that Compressor was bundled with and the serial number handy before starting this.

Use Finder to remove the following listed items:
    /Applications/Apple Qadministrator.app
    /Applications/Apple Qmaster.app
    /Applications/Compressor.app
    /Applications/Utilities/Batch Monitor.app
    /Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster (the folder)
    /Library/Frameworks/AECore.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/Compressor.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/MediaServerAPI.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/Qmaster.framework
    /Library/Logs/Qmaster (the folder)
    /Library/PreferencePanes/Apple Qmaster.prefPane
    /Library/Receipts/Compressor.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/ProMediaIO.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Qmaster.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Qmaster_Frameworks.pkg
    /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster (the folder)
In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
    Type the following path:
    /usr/sbin/
    Click the Go button.
Locate the following items from that Finder folder, and drag them to the Trash:
    qmasterca
    qmasterd
    qmasterprefs
    qmasterqd
In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
    Type the following path:
    /var/spool/qmaster/
    Click the Go button.
If there are any folders inside the qmaster directory, drag them to the Trash.
If you have Motion installed, drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash.
From your install disc, reinstall Compressor and Apple Qmaster (and Motion, if applicable).
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.

    Good Luck…
