    Hey folks,

Thought I saw this in the flurry of FCS3 posts, but if I did I deleted it…

Using compressor (v3.5) to downconvert HD proes422 HQ 23.98 to SD MPEG IMX 525/60 letterboxed. (IMX is the codec my editors need to save render time.) I have the LB color set to 0,0,0 rgb.

Open in FC 7 and the letterbox area appears gamma shifted up, about 20 units. Thought it might relate to the new gamma 2.20, but I can’t change the gamma setting in FCP with this codec, and I can’t find a gamma setting preference in Compressor. I tried Prores 422 and got the same results.

Anyone deal with this? I can have them re-letterbox, but I’d like to solve the issue if I can.

And again, if I missed this and am reposting, I apologize. I’ll keep looking.

    Thanks,
    D

[Dan Monro] “and I can’t find a gamma setting preference in Compressor.”
    Compressor have an Gamma filter.
Use the preview window to adjust it.

Thanks Rafael, but if you’re talking about the gamma Correction in the filters tab, that affects the video itself. The video looks great – correct – in FCP. It’s just the letterbox black level thats too high. Its almost as if I went in and changed the color of the letterbox to a 20% grey…

I wish it would not do that.

oddly I’ve seen it do that to a batch of clips but not all of them
even though they were all anamorphic. some got proper black bars.
