    HI there,

The problem is that my m2v asset (NTSC) imported to DVDSP or played in QT or even edited in FCP has proper duration but not in Compressor. When I drag the m2v file to Compressor
[for transcoding purposes] the preview window shows fake video lenght…
Alas, Compressor is using this wrong timecode to do the transcoding :/
The difference in timecode is about 26 minutes long…
JES Deinterlacer done transcoding perfectly and I know its only Compressors issues.

It might be new QT but I’m curious if someone else faced this problem?

    Any help will be appreciated

why don’t you try to transcode the original seq (NOT the m2v) instead.

would be much better quality too!!!

beside this I don’t know why compressor doesn’t show the duration correctly 🙂
but maybe it is because the m2v format is mpeg2 which is GOP based so not every frame is complete. Maybe compressor is not made to convert m2v files…

and unfortunately Dave is incorrect: there are plenty of pal dvd players who can’t play ntsc, and even if they would they either have to convert the signal themselves to pal or the tv needs to be able to accept ntsc signals. more chances to play russian roulette…

well even a cow can be wrong sometimes :-))
(specially if she has never tasted the goodness of succulent pal pastures)

    Hi there,

First of all I’m vested with m2v file only, its brought from DVD disc
(I don’t have any chance to get better quality material).

Second: my client wants a Pal movie so this is a must.

Third: I’ve made an experiment, Compressor 2 on my older Mac Pro shows everything fine,
then I’ve installed FCS 2 on my Mac Pro on the partitioned disk just in case something would go wrong. FCS 2 shouted at beginning of dependencies that is must have. So I’ve installed
10.4.11 upgrade my OS and newest QT. Theafter patches for FCS was brought to my OS
by Software Update and I thought everything now should be fine. Naah, It was’nt.
New installation of Compressor on seperate disk acts the same….

One logical explanation: QT in its newest version propitiate poor Compressor 3.0.2 to the dark side!

Thanks everyone for taking a look on this problem!

DVD players have to be told which zones and system formats to play and which ones not to play. I don’t know of any manufacturers that don’t make universal machines and then software cripple them. Many players can be switched to play all zones all formats, but not ALL players. Similarly not all TVs auto switch PAL to NTSC but many do.

Many people (but not all) in PAL countries can handle NTSC disks perfectly well. So Dave is close to right but Carsten is quite correct.

As for transcoding an NTSC m2v file to PAL, that is a regretable codec to do a conversion on. It would be much better if possible to do it from a master tape, preferably uncompressed. Compressor is certainly not the worlds best standards converter, so I would try Dave’s idea and find out if delivery of an NTSC disk is OK.

M2V do not support SMPT TC. Transcode your M2V to 8b Uncompresse d with MPGStreamclip (nobody have mentioned!!) and bring the .mov to Compressor.

So why not just use the JES version?
