I’m using Final Cut Studio 2 on a Core Duo 17″ MBP with 2gb RAM… So I exported a self contained QT file from FCP, it is a 1920×1080 24fps QT mov compressed using the Pjpeg codec at %75… I quit FCP and every other app and dropped the file into Compressor 3 to compress to mpeg2… Compressor starts working on the file but then errors out with “Quicktime general error 0” after a few minutes… I found a few posts about this being a RAM limitation… Is 2gb RAM not enough memory to compress this HD file to SD mpeg2? Thats the most I can put in this Core Duo MBP btw…. Thanks in advance…

Try sending it to compressor directly from FCP

You didn’t mention what your sequence is, or what you shot. Your workflow could be adding to your woes, it might help to tell us the whole story.

You can export directly from FCP as mentioned, but first I would try exporting a reference move in the same settings as you project, This will save you a lot of time. I don’t think you are gaining anything by exporting to photo jpeg, which is an unnecessary compression step.

I have found that if you export your entire program to a Quicktime file then use Compressor to compress your file, it will work.

I’ve gotten that error many times and always when exporting straight from the sequence.
