We are looking for a compression training course using the latest tools. It’s mind-boggling how many options there are in every format. We need to know how to best use the tools we have to produce the best video for clients’ approval and posting to their web sites. The ‘ol Windows Media File always works, but it’s either too big or too crappy-looking. We need a hands-on class that’s customized to the tools we already own.

We have Media100HD, Final Cut Studio, After Effects CS5, Episode pro, Compressor, as well as a few others.

    Any suggestions?

    Matt-
Check out “Internet Killed the Video Star: A Guide to Creating Video for the Web” from Aharon Rabinowitz. It’s from the COW’s master series and available here from the COW store. It may not be the “course” you’re looking for but well worth its modest price tag.

The only problem with this guy is the awful ‘Mountie’ hat he always seems to wear! However he does know his stuff and is easy to follow.

I highly recommend “Simple Encoding Recipes” by Phillip Hodgetts. It’s a downloadable PDF file for only 5 bucks, but it’s been the best resource I’ve found so far. Here:
