Is compressor frequently speratic about its task times. Today i had a 24gb files taking an hour. Then another 16gb files took 3hours.

Another large file was estimating 3hours, then i had to pause the task to do something. when i unpaused, it was finished in 10mins.

Why does it work this way?

Time estimation often changes rapidly once encode starts.
It’s not just file size but codec and settings which can impact encode time. Frame Controls Deinterlace can have a big impact. Use progressive source and the encodes can happen much faster.
