Okay. I really have tried looking everywhere for these answers, and it seems I have bitten off more than I can chew but I need immediate help. I am capturing footage (15++tapes worth) in FCP that was shot in 24p. This is later going to be transfered to Avid. I’m trying to figure out the equivalent compression/resolution that will transfer to avid (I think avid defaults to 25, so what’s the equivelent and how do I do it?)
2nd question: I need to speed up the footage so it looks time lapsed. When I was using my director’s Avid (with mojo?), you click the fast menu button and you can type in the percentage or frame rate and then BOOM! it does it. I find in FCP that I am always having to render when I do it fill edit style. Is it because it’s too big? if so, again, how do I make it smaller? and, is using fill edit the only and most accurate way to do it?
3rd question: What’s a good tutorial or class one can take to teach themselves FCP and Avid so I don’t sound like such a jack*ss? I’m a damn good editor, I’m just lousy with technology. Being a good editor is not enough today, and I am too young to be a dinosaur. I know people are going to give me crap, and I deserve it, but please help. thank you.

    sincerely,
    desperate

#1) 24P what? DV? If so, then capture as DV. Avid can import quicktime movies – it just takes forever.

#2) You can change the speed of a clip in the Browser under the Motion Tab>time remapping – I think it plays back right away in the browser.

#3) Who are you calling a dinosaur!!??

Oh – and then you need to export the new footage and to that i’d the AVID quicktime codec and use THAT to make new clips.
