Compression problems in Final Cut Express
I just installed FCE 4.0.1 to MacBook Pro and updated to 10.5.8. Since then, I have not been able to compress video to upload to my company’s VMix player. The audio sounds great on the timeline and when I make a large QuickTime file. But when I do the final compression, the audio drops out.
I started with VMix and tested each step down the work chain.
The same thing happened when I tried to compress the file on other computers. I even had a friend try the file with an earlier version and OS. I have done an audio mixdown from the sequence menu before exporting. I have replaced the audio track with a .wav file after the first QT export.
Before installing FCE and upgrading to 10.5.8, I used this computer to capture video in I-Movie. I would save it as a QT file then take it to another computer and edited on Final Cut Pro.
After going through every other step, I tried the same process again. The audio levels again dropped out on compression. The only thing that had changed in that chain was the OS.
I’m wondering if there’s some bug between 10.5.8 and FCE?
I am using QuickTime 7.6.2
I’ve been working on this for several days and would like to get back to posting videos. They play perfectly on the computer, and on other computers, before I do the final compression.
I do the final compression using these audio settings:
AAC
Mono
44.100
Quality: Best
Mpeg4 Bit Rate: 144
(These are the settings recommended by VMix, which is our player).I have also tried using Linear PCM in the sound as the sound format at 48 KHz/16 bit. Audio still drops.
Everything is up to date on the MacBook. This is a company computer so I need permission to go back another version on the OS.
I’ve been on other forums, including the Apple Support Final Cut Express forum. I’ve searched Google. No help.
Everyone seems to be stumped on this.
Any suggestions, fixes or work-arounds?
