We have some videos shot in HDV (on a Canon HV30). We’ve edited them in final cut pro. What is the best work flow for compressing them for YouTube and Vimeo? I’m using Sorensen Squeeze, which I like a great deal. What codec should I export them with to use in Squeeze? Finding the right parameters in squeeze for YouTube and Vimeo isn’t too hard … the recipes seem to work well enough. My concern is am I starting with the highest quality file before compressing? I was exporting it is the “current settings” – which are those of the captured HDV. I’ve fiddled with Apple’s Pro Res (HQ) 422 and a few others. But it seems to me that one cannot export the HDV footage at any higher quality that what it was captured at … perhaps I’m missing something here. Any suggestions?

[If some one could point me toward a tutorial that would be appreciated. I clearly don’t have a grasp on all this: Just today I took a 500 MB movie and “compressed” it to 800 MB.]
