Compression for Rendered animations
Greetings,
We create animations using 3ds Max and are trying to improve our production pipeline. Our equipment:
Dell 690, Dual Quadcore Xeon, XP64, 32 GB of RAM.Software:
3ds Max (9,2008,2009,2010), Adobe CS3 Master Suite
QT Pro 7.6.4, Super C., VLC 1.0.0 Goldeneye, Flash Video Studio 3.0Our current process:
Frames are rendered on or “farm” and stored to a Linux server machine
The frames are imported to After Effects, comped or color corrected, spliced with other rendered frames. We typically export from AE as an uncompressed MOV, then transfer the file to our network where we transfer to a 32 bit machine (Dell XPS-2010 with 4 gb RAM, 2.33 GHz running XP Pro SP3).
Or problem is in most of our rendered/compressed animations there are places where the file fails to play smoothly. Even when we convert the same files to Flash (we have tried SWF and FLV) we experience the same thing.
My suspicion is there is something in AE and exporting as an un compressed MOV that is introducing the stuttering.
We have considered purchasing Sorenson Squeeze Pro (we arent afrid to spend money to get the right software) to try to remedy this issue.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
David
