Ok, so I’ve been shooting tv spots and corporate videos on my mark ii for the past 3 years. My workflow is as follows, acquire gradable h.264 files, transcode to prores for fcp 7, edit on prores sequence, export self contained, transcode to compressor to flavor of choice, usually h.264 or MPEG2 at 35mbps. So my question is this because I constantly try to attain the best clarity possible that the mark ii can provide. I know h.264 is a heavily compressed codec that will give you some noise in the blacks and artifacts, but it seems like when I export out of final cut it gets noisier than when I simply watch playback on my sequence. Can anyone shed some light on this? Shouldn’t my playback on the sequence and playback of self-contained in QuickTime match? It just seems like I see other things shot on the mark ii and some seem super clean. Note that I usually don’t go higher than 640iso, and keep it to 160 or 320. If possible. Any suggestions guys?
