Anyone have ideas on the best export setting for SD video out of Avid Media Comp0ser? Also, I’m using Sorenson for compression, any ideas on the best compression setting to use for SD video that will be on DVD’s for play on home television?

I’d go for Same As Source. This will give you a QT in the very same resolution you have been working in. If you are working in (or rendering to) one specific resolution, a Same As Source export is one of the quickest ways to export.
You may also consider a QT Ref, which just points to the Avid media.

In both cases you will let Sorensen do the compression, no need to precompress in Avid beforehand.

Thanks! I’ve been using QT Ref so that’s all good. What about the setting choice for Sorenson? There’s so many different formats that I’m not sure which is best. The video I’m putting in Sorenson would be to play on a TV. Any thought?

If for DVD playback, the best bet would be to use the SD-DVD templates (MPEG-2). However, you may need to tick the 16-235 box, depending on whether or not you export as RGB or 601 from Avid.
