    Hi there,

I’m a long time sorenson user and to upgrade they want almost $600 to upgrade to the power pack V4.5. Since I would need to upgrade to 4.5 first then upgrade that to the power pack.

What other alternatives are out there for compression these days?

I use mpeg streamclip and compressor all of the time but I feel they do not offer the range of compression options for formats such as flv, wmv, and even quicktime. Also, sorenson squeeze does not encode wmv’s on the mac side right? What software does?

    Any help would be great.

Episode is probably the winner as the best overall Encoder for all formats. It won in a recent magazine review.

They even have a plug in to allow you to use Compressor settings from within the Episode interface.

You can compress WMV in Squeeze (and even Compressor) with Flip4Mac. Squeeze even includes a very basic version (just a few unmodifiable presets) free.

BUT, as Rich says, Episode is major flexible and with the new Compressor plugin you can even use Compressor’s processing filters if you so choose as well as qmaster.
