Compression
I’ve been doing some reading and thinking about upgrading my Mac system. Is there a huge difference in speed for encoding and doing compressions with a dual CPU versus a single processor? I was looking at like a i7 Quadcore processor or a hexacore processor. I’m wondering about speeds with programs like Avid and Adobe CS5. What I’ve read says you don’t get much of a boost with dual processors.
Also, how much RAM would one recommend?
I’m just trying to speed things up as sometimes they can take a long time.

Barefeats did very relevant tests. I hope the powers that be don’t mind that I post the link but does the kind of tests many of wish we had all the configs to do.
