  • Compressing to create HI QUALITY DVDs Question –

Posted by Natasha O’cconor on July 23, 2008 at 3:55 am

I have read many many many threads related to this subject over the last few weeks. I am yet to find something that will help me even more…

    FACTS-
I create DVDs for work with 16×9 hi-res material. Each piece of material is between 30-60sec long. I go from Compressor 3.0.3 then create the DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4.

With the material calculated in time, there is no more than 30min. I am using the 90min hi quality compressor DVD preset.
The material is not coming out great, it is ok but I need to try and make it better. Once I have gone through the process of actually making the DVD in Studio Pro the quality of the vision is standard. I need to try and make HIGH quality material not just standard.

    Compressor settings I’m using –

    Description: SETTINGS FOR DVD (90MIN)
    File Extension: m2v
Estimated file size: 3.03 GB/hour of source
    Type: MPEG-2 video elementary stream

    2 Pass VBR enabled
    Maximum data rate: 8.3 (Mbps)
    Better motion estimation
Closed GOP Size: 12, Structure: IBBP
    DVD Studio Pro meta-data enabled

DVD Studio Pro settings I’m using –

    MPEG-2 SD
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Field Order: Top
    Mode: Two Pass VBR
    Bit Rate: 7.1
    Max Bit Rate: 8.3
    Motion Estimation: Better
    Method: Encode on Build

If you need me to supply further info just ask, more than happy to. So want to get to the bottom of this!

    Thank you,

    N

    Hi,

Can you tell me/us exactly what this “Hi-res” material is. I.E. how was it shot or generated? What format is it in? Frame size etc, as much information on the source material as possible please.
