compressing in mpeg streamclip
Posted by James Bishop on April 24, 2010 at 4:41 pmI have a quicktime file that is 5.24GB in size and I’m trying to use MPEG Streamclip to compress the file to fit onto a dvd in the best possible quality.
Does anyone know exactly what I should convert the file to in order to fit onto DVD?
thanks!

April 24, 2010 at 4:50 pmAll SD DVDs require encoding to MPEG2, but Streamclip is not the tool for that, You should use one of the DVD presets in Compressor for the encode and then use DVDSP to burn to DVD. Besides encoding the video, Compressor also encodes the audio to AC3, which makes DVDs play much better in most players.

April 24, 2010 at 5:04 pmUnfortunately the rather annoying thing is my compressor does not work! I have tried on and off for the past year to get it working but have been told that the only way to fix it is to re-install it, but I can’t do that as I don’t have the original discs (I bought the mac second hand and it came with final cut already installed)
I don’t suppose you know of a different method of doing this, using another program?
thanks

What you’re asking for is help from us for a workaround for illegal software. No one here will do that, because if they do, they’ll be wide open to losing their rights to post here on the Cow.

April 24, 2010 at 8:27 pmOh ok. I wasn’t aware it was illegal to use software that came on a second hand laptop. As far as I know it is a genuine copy and the guy who I bought it from (on ebay) lost the discs..
I don’t suppose you could just tell me whether it is actually possible to do what I want to do without compressor? If so then I will give up! The film I need to get on to DVD is a wedding which I need to have finished by the end of next week. Is there somewhere else online where I might be able to get some useful info?
Thanks

For the record, it’s only okay to use the operating system on a second hand computer, period end of story, unless the seller sells you the sole copy of the serial number and original discs for the other apps onboard, and clearly we know that’s not the case.

You have mentioned over and over and over that your Compressor does not work.

https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1081996#1081996Take the plunge and buy yourself FCS. Hopefully you have learned that you did not save money by buying a used computer that had software pre-installed from ebay.

May 10, 2010 at 9:50 pmBeen having a slightly different issue with Mpegstream clip and Compressor both.
I have a program recorded to a DVD. There are 22 titles on this DVD.
It’s Title 16, and it has 3 chapters to it…
Both programs will recognize Title 16, the first part of it. But it will not see chapter 2, and 3. It only recognizes the first chapters of each title.
So if there is a title 16 with 3 chapters to it , or a title 17 with 2 chapters to it.. because of different recorder times that break up titles into chapters.. all that gets recognized is the first chapter.
Apple – 10.5.8
Stream Clip Version 1.9.3b1 (1.9.3b1)
Compressor 3.5.2I recorded a SLP program to DVD using a Sony DVD recorder (consumer). I’m just wanting to encode stuff for the fun of it, nothing serious here. Most likely it’s a corrupt issue with the DVD itself.
