Compressing an AVI File
Posted by Ian Durkee on January 26, 2010 at 7:00 pmWhen I try and Compress an AVI file from a Flip Camera in Compressor the audio compresses fine, but the video is blank after compressing.
Advice?
Thanks!

January 26, 2010 at 7:14 pmCan you play the source file in Quicktime? If not, there may be no means for Quicktime to decode.
Not having using the Flip you may need to check if they have a Mac Quicktime Playback Component or make sure you install the current version of Perian, which can often decode (allow Quicktime to play) some various codecs. -

January 26, 2010 at 11:05 pmI did download the latest version of Perian to view the orginal AVI file, but after compressing the video is no longer viewable… odd.

January 26, 2010 at 11:51 pmIs this viewing issue in Quicktime 7.6.x or Quicktime X?
Use as Apple web progressive download preset as a test. Try both Quicktime 7 compatible preset and Quicktime 6 compatible preset. -

January 27, 2010 at 2:45 amI am able to view the original video fine with Perian. But once I compress the media into a different type of codec the video is blank. My main goal is to be able to edit the footage in Final Cut Pro7.

January 27, 2010 at 4:11 amPlease encode using the two presets I mention specifically.
Please confirm WHICH version of QT you’re viewing with.
I’ve seen issues where files play in QT 7.6 but not QT X.
