  • Compressing 960 x 720 HD timeline to ‘Letterboxed’ 4×3 DVD output

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would like to output my HD timeline that is 960 x 720 via Compressor. Each time I do this using DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes, I get a “squished” image.

Will this work itself out when I put it into DVD Studio Pro? Or is there a setting I should use to be sure I maintain my ’16×9′ framing in a letterbox format on the DVD.

Ultimately I would like my client to view the dvd on a standard 4×3 monitor (tv).

Your advice on what seems to be a basic question with a troublesome resolution is greatly appreciated.

Have you searched this forum by any chance? This has been asked about a dozen times over the past month alone. You’re making an SD DVD from an HD timeline.

Set Compressor to 16:9 for the MPEG-2 Compression.

Set DVDSP to a 16:9 DVD.

    You’re done.

Thanks Walter, I have checked out the forum and have not found anything that clearly helps me.

This may be because I put the timeline through Compressor and have never seen a clean 16×9 image in the end. Meaning, I would need to rely on DVD Studio Pro to make it right by resizing it. Is this the case, does DVD Studio Pro “correct” the image to play 4×3 letterbox?

I realize this may seem redundant/basic, though I am struggling with it and need assistance. I appreciate your help.

We can talk about it, or we can just do it….

DVD Studio Pro seems to size it right and make it work.

I was double clicking the .m2v file and getting a squeezed preview. I should be good now.

    Thanks. dk

DVD Studio Pro should be fixing anything. You need to select the 16:9 aspect ratio in Compressor.
