Compound clips effect on encode time
Hi, as my project with a duration of 5 minutes evolved, the encode times on my 2011 imac went from about 30 minutes to almost 3 hours in it’s final form. It’s a 1280×720 60p project that has the typical bunch of transitions between 4-5 second scenes.
Is there any relationship between how projects get structured in FCPX and render times? Does the use of nested compound clips increase render time?
At one point, I decided to wrap the entire timeline into a compound clip and named it audio, thinking that I could then place all my markers related to audio at that level. I felt forced to do that because I can only view the markers contained within a single compound clip and there is no way to categorize markers. This method of organization didn’t work out though, because if I then try to drill down into that compound clip, to actually fix the audio that might actually reside 3 nested levels deeper, the position of the playhead is lost as I drill down and I have to scub through to find my spot again. This makes no sense at all to me and assume it is a design bug.
I’m curious of how other people organize their timelines to best make use of markers. Markers are powerful, but not having a way to both list all markers at all levels or to categorize their use (Audio, color, transition, etc), is very limiting.
