Hey there, I have a slight issue, I wonder whether you guys could shine some light on it.

I’ve just created a compound clip tidying up several elements, but when I dive in to do the more finer editing I lose the main soundtrack which is in the main project so I now can’t sync to this track without going back and forth. So my question is…. Is there a way to reference the main project’s soundtrack without actually ’embedding’ it within the compound clip (kind of like a guide layer in after effects)

    Does that make sense?

    Many thanks

Why not edit to the audio without using a compound clip and then compound it later?

If you don’t want to do that, I can only think of one way and it’s not much more convenient. You could try using markers to show particular edit points of your audio within the compound clip.

I think just for good ‘house-keeping’ compound clips work well to keep everything tidy but I guess I could split them back up again re-time everything then compound clip them again… it’d just be real handy if there was a way round it.

CMD-Shft-G on your compound clip, make come changes, and then option-g your clips back into a compound.

It seems like a lot of effort but it’s really not a big deal unless you have effects on the compound clip too.

Yeah this seems like the best way to do it, thanks all

I had a similar question about timing out bullet points with narration.
I’m trying to use compound clips to contain the text and it would be nice if the playhead lined up ‘through’ a compound clip from where the playhead is in the main project, but it doesn’t seem to work this way.

Is the ‘break apart clip items’ …adjust timing….then redo the compound clip method still the best way to go?
