Composting ParticleIllusions in After effects
There seems to be no way to render the Particle Illusion effect on alpha. You have to render it on the orignal footage or luma key out the solid. Most other filters allow you render to alpha. This makes the effect look a little ragged. Any advice. I don’t like to put it right on the original footage, since this makes multiple particle effects difficult to manage.

PI3 does render out an alpha. You just have to enable it in an image file format that excepts alpha like png or tga or in an avi codec that does.

We usually use the lagarith codec to render with alpha channnel
