  • Composition stays 4:3 with 720p footage

I am compositing footage that I shot with the HVX200.

I edited the sequences in FCP 5.1.4 and 6 (I am working between school and home) and am bringing the quicktimes into AE for compositing.

In FCP, I did: file–>export–>as quicktime

When I bring it into AE 7, and drag the QT to the comp icon to make a new comp, it creates a composition that is 4:3. The image is stretched. If you look in the project bin window (at the very top w/ the clip info) that the clip is 960×720 and it is 16:9, but in the comp window it is 4:3 and stretched.

    My composition settings are:
    DVCPRO HD 720 23.976
    960
    720
    PIXEL ASPECT RATIO:
    HDV 1080/DVCPRO HD 720 (1.33)
    FRAME ASPECT RATIO 16:9

In FCP it looks fine and when you open the original quicktimes themselves, they look fine.

    Please advise, thank you!!!

Is probably the correct aspect ratio button that is not activated at the bottom of the timeline.

Click on the comp, then go to the comp menu at the top and click on compostion settings….make sure that the comp is set to a 16:9 resolution…..if it is, and you are seeing 4:3, it is not a big deal, as it will still render out in 16:9.
