Does anyone know if it’s possible to make the comp size larger than the 2048 or if Apple is going to support larger comp sizes in motion. It keeps telling me my hardware isn’t capable of larger sizes and that I need to reduce the resolution, which I went down to a quarter, and still nothing appears. I assume it’s not capable of doing larger comps?

it cant, but rumor has it the since every othe pro app like FCP hd can do bigger sizes that motion will be able to in th enext release, so wait for NAB cause thats when the new stuff comes out, and there probally is a lot of truth to it cause all apple apps work off of the QT format and the new QT7 can do just about everything as far as sizing.

The graphics card you are using is the limiting factor. In fact I believe that the Radeon 6800 does already allow larger image sizes but I haven’t tested so take that with a grain of salt.

For motion, the size restriction is entirely in hardware, as the error message posted.

    Hey Brian,

As Philip mentioned, this is a hardware issue, not a Motion issue, per se. Motion uses OpenGL (processed on your GPU) to do all of its image processing, compositing, etc. Graphics cards have limits as to the single largest image (texture) that they can handle. For most current cards, this limit is 2K. On the nVidia 6800, it’s 4K. It’s not an arbitrary limit (a la Flame being limited to 2K) where Apple just decided that you can’t work with big images. As new graphics cards allow for bigger textures, so will Motion allow for bigger project/image sizes. Hope this clears things up.

Thanks for helping me out. Can’t wait til they get some faster cards out there, would make my life much much easier.
