A friend and I are collaborating on a project. He is creating a spaceship in C4D and I am compositing it into a live action plate of a corn field. The problem we are having I think is understanding which settings to use to achieve a nice soft drop shadow and proper anti-aliasing. Has anyone done a similar composite? My friend is telling me the object must be rendered against a background of some sort in order to catch the shadow but then in CG forums I’ve read that renderings can be created for compositing so that their alpha channel takes care of drop shadows and anti-aliasing with the video plate. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks for any help.
