  • compositing 3D phone screen in AE

    Hey guys,

I have 3d model of a phone i am animating, the issue is I render the screen out with green (color doesnt matter) instead of applying a footage as the screen, my reason is that i want to change the footage and align it however i want after i render the 3d scene

so i am left with a footage of the animated phone with a green screen that i overlay with a video and distorting it using corner pin in AE, which ofcourse i have to animate manually.

How would you go around doing something like this to have full control?

    following

you have to import the 3d camera from cinema 4d(check the internet for more info). and then put a external compositing tag on the phone screen. check the “solid” checkbox in the tag, and then back to after effects you get a solid in 3d space wich moves with the phone. i would pre compose it, now you can put everything in the screencomp.

    bam!

This will get your screen in the right place.

However, I would recommend not using a green screen on your C4D render. You can use a black screen and set your screen replacement layer to the ‘screen’ blend mode in AE and preserve any reflections you might have on your screen in C4D. This would be impossible to do with a green screen, also the green may give you unwanted reflections in the bezel of the phone.

Wow! that is brilliant, I never used the external composting tag before

I already manually animate the video and pre-comp it so that i can use another video if i feel like. but this technique is awesome I will use it future projects.

and I object buffer the reflection channel and overlay it in AE to have more control. Thanks for reminding me about ”screen” the video later over the 3d model.

your post was quite informative, I appreciate it

    Thanks !
