I’m doing a pretty good job compositing 2 different elements in the same picture using After Effects. The only thing I’m missing is I don’t know how to achieve the lighting correctly. ya know, where there’s shine from a light above that brightens the side of the head, or shoulders. What filter, or effect would be best to achieve light shine?

You can add lights and cameras to a composition, and the lights will only hit 3D layers. Is that what you mean? But it’s not going to just add light to a head or shoulders. Even 3D layers are flat planes in 3D space. There’s no depth to a video or photo of someone’s shoulders or head. You need to get creative. Filters, masks, or photoshop (if it’s a still) or shoot the people with lights on their heads / shoulders in the first place.

If all you need is to lighten up the shoulders / side of head: Try throwing a feathered junk-mask on the desired areas and use your color correction effects (i.e. levels, hue-saturation, etc…).

    -Hope that helps
