Oh come now Stephen, you’re a graphics and compositing God. So yeah, just a piece of cake for a dude of your talents.

March 23, 2011 at 10:14 pmMy 2 cents on this — it’s comped. The talent doesn’t move (not even a little!), and the petals always seem to be oriented toward the camera. They tumble in 2 dimensions only, not 3, so it looks to me like a particle system with 2D sprites.

March 23, 2011 at 10:47 pmI just got back from a test shoot. The results were mixed. I only had the ability to shoot 60 fps. I tried slowing the footage down with Twixtor and with Optical Flow in Motion, but there is too much movement between frames from the individual falling objects.
I priced out a Phantom, but sadly, it’s a bit out of the budget. After the test, I am really thinking that this could have been shot with a high speed camera shooting around 1000 fps.
Anyone have any ideas how I might pull this off without the rental of a Phantom?

Particle effects.
In After Effects, Combustion, Motion, or Shake.
