  • Component to DV converters and Premiere Pro 2?

Posted by Alex Udell on August 11, 2006 at 3:29 pm

    Hi Guys…

    Premiere Pro 2

Anyone out there using external Component to DV converters for use with Betacam and such devices?

    How is the quality?

Any Problem Brining Video and Audio in DV, but getting deck control via RS-422?

    Thanks….

    Alex-

I’ve been using the SD connect for about a year now – the only issues I have are with the lack of audio meters in Premiere when you capture, so I can’t tell until afterwards if my levels are too low or (even worse) too hot. As far as the video goes though – no complaints.

Neato…this is the Uncompressed if 1394?

I’ve only used premiere pro with Axio or software DV…

How does it behave with uncompressed in software mode?

    Is anything real time?

    Hi Alex,

Currently, uncompressed is broken under PPro 2…apparently the SDK changed in this area. Everything else works fine.

The Canopus ADVC 500 has audio levels and front-of-housing pots as well (I have both here), but has no machine control or SDI…and I believe it’s still more expensive than the SD Connect…which has machine control and SDI.

The SD Connect also has digital audio and a monitor output…

Yes…I know. Welcome to multiple companies working on multiple items…independently.

Convergent Design is a small company and it can be difficult to chase SDK changes as quickly as they happen. In fact, much larger companies have had difficulty keeping up with Adobe’s sweeping changes (which I think have been GREAT BTW…), Canopus is a case in point…the Storm card drivers never did recover from the change to Premiere Pro, ultimately resulting in the discontinuation of Adobe support on Canopus cards…

I know Convergent Design knows of the problem and they are working on it along with some other very interesting things…

…however, the uncompressed option was a deal/no deal feature for many users and I can appreciate the gap this leaves for those users.
